loveyourmakeup:

Well, depends on how much you put on to start with!

Heavy makeup is so unnecessary every day. Keep it simple and go all out when you are going out or for a special occasion.

#makeup #doha #cosmetics #beauty

fuck ur shit makeup is my art

i can’t make art on paper

i can’t write poetry

i can’t make music

i can’t dance

but i CAN paint. and draw. and outline. and blend. and smudge. and highlight. and shade.

it just so happens that my face is my canvas.

^

The harmful drug here is society’s unrealistic expectations of women. The harmful drug here is media’s influence in making women feel like they’re not good enough. Being able to visually express yourself is not harmful. I love my makeup. I love to create and blend and explore colour palettes and I love to put it on my face the same reason you love to wear your favourite shirt. You feel good wearing that shirt and it also gives others a feel for your personality. Expressing yourself is not harmful; belittling women for their right to do so is.

Of course makeup is used as a tool to enhance beauty and can therefore have negative effects on one’s self esteem, warping their perception of beauty and in effect their own self worth. However instead of tacking that issue, some women feel the need to lecture others (almost always condescendingly) on what makeup is, what it does, when to wear it, how and why. Not wearing makeup doesn’t make you any more morally superior than the next person.

"Princeton University psychologist Susan Fiske took brain scans of heterosexual men while they looked..."

““Princeton University psychologist Susan Fiske took brain scans of heterosexual men while they looked at sexualised images of women wearing bikinis. She found that the part of their brains that became activated was pre-motor - areas that usually light up when people anticipate using tools. The men were reacting to the images as if the women were objects they were going to act on. Particularly shocking was the discovery that the participants who scored highest on tests of hostile sexism were those most likely to deactivate the part of the brain that considers other people’s intentions (the medial prefrontal cortex) while looking at the pictures. These men were responding to images of the women as if they were non-human.””

- The Equality Illusion (via lesilencieux)
scary.
(via fuckyeahfeminists)

"Don’t aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run—in the long-run, I say!—success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it.”

- Viktor E Frankl, Man’s Search For Meaning (via fuckyeahyoga)

sexualfrustrationmama:

Thus, the Swedish woman’s desire to not have something done to her body was seen as less valid than the rapists’ desire to carry it out; Angelina Jolie’s desire to have surgery was seen as less valid than men’s desire to leer at her breasts; and women’s desire to wear what they like is seen as less valid than men’s opinions on what they should be wearing. These vary in severity and the horror of their consequences, but it is the same pernicious mentality that underlies them all.

Body positivity is not a linear journey. Some days will be easier than others.

You erase their experiences and perspective, their struggles and obstacles, their unique way of having to deal with those things in a world that also erases them. With the words, ‘but humans are humans’ or the bullshit dramatics of ‘we all bleed red’ normal people can simply pretend that if we all did things the way they did, then everything would work out okay. But, yes, we all bleed red but you don’t treat a papercut the same way you treat a gash, you don’t treat an infected wound the same way you treat one that isn’t, you don’t treat a wound to the leg the same way you treat a wound to the gut. You are not acknowledging someone’s personhood when you ignore the very things that make their lives different than yours, and when you refuse to understand that their circumstances have given them their own perspective that is just as valid as yours. More valid in fact – their perspective about their experiences that you haven’t been through is far more valid than anything you could ever think about it.”

-
The danger of worldviews (Speaking when the world sleeps)
